Qualify for IMMERSE
|
What are you looking for when choosing student participants for IMMERSE?
Because we consider IMMERSE such an incredible opportunity, we would like to choose
students who will most benefit from it. These would include students planning on
pursuing graduate studies, especially in a microelectronics related field. We would
also like students that want to eventually want to work in the microelectronics field.
We consider this field to be very broad, however, containing all types of activities
that rely on microfabrication. It goes without saying, that we would also like
students that are motivated and hard working.
Do students have to be taking an engineering major?
IMMERSE students do not necessarily have to be engineering majors, although they
should be in some type of science major. Some of our past students have been
chemistry and physics majors.
Are there any minimum GPA requirements?
At least a 3.4 GPA is what we usually look for, although we could make exceptions for
an exceptional student.
Are you only looking for students who are finishing their second academic year?
Not necessarily. Timing your academic career can be tricky. What we would like to see,
however, is that you have two available summers in your future before starting graduate
school or your first job.
What if I don’t know what I would like to research?
You really shouldn’t. The purpose of your mentor is to guide you. As long as you are
interested in some type of microelectronics subject, we will give you the training you
need and point you towards a publishable topic.
Are there any deadlines?
You must apply by Feb. 26 each year to be considered for the next summer.
