Undergraduate Research

The focus of the IMMERSE program is on teaching undergraduate students how to conduct and publish significant research. Faculty mentors help participating students to write and publish technical papers summarizing their research projects and results. The "Undergraduate Research Model" of the IMMERSE/MME programs has been successful in helping participating students to publish their work in technical, peer-reviewd journals and articles.

Every Student Can Publish

  • Program operates with the goal that every student author or co-author a technical journal or conference paper
  • Faculty conceive of research projects and then assign to students. Projects always have end goal of publication in mind.

Undergraduate Research Model

Builds on the success of the Microfabrication Mentoring Environment (MME) Program begun in 2003 by Professors Aaron Hawkins and Stephen Schultz of BYU's Electrical and Computer Engineering Department.

Proven Success

In the past 5 years, the IMMERSE/MME programs have employed over 50 undergraduate students
    • More than 80% have authored or co-authored a journal or conference article
    • More than 75% have pursued graduate studies, most in micro-electronics fields
