One-on-One Soccer Competition Rules

Physical Layout and Dimensions.

  • An orange golf ball will take the place of the soccer ball.
  • The physical dimensions of the robot must be such that it fits in its entirety within a 10 inch cube.
  • In size and coloring, the playing field will be similar to the RoboCup field.
  • The offensive player will be identified by a large red dot.
  • The defensive player will be identified by a large blue dot.
  • Each team will be equipped with a PC and a camera that has a global view of the playing field.
  • Game Description and Rules

  • Modeled on the tie-breaking shootout in soccer, a game consists of five "innings". Each inning consists of two "plays", with robots alternating between offensive and defensive modes. If the score is tied after five innings, the players will continue to play innings in a sudden death fashion until the tie is broken.
  • At the beginning of a play, the ball is placed in the center of the playing field. The defensive player is placed in the center of the field directly in front of the goal. The offensive player may be placed anywhere outside the center circle.
  • The referee starts the play by saying "go." Once the start of play is signalled to the robot, there is to be no human interaction with the robot.
  • A play ends when the offensive player scores a goal or when 30 seconds has elapsed, whichever comes first.
  • "Carrying" the ball is not allowed. By carrying the ball, we mean that a robot traps the ball so that it cannot be taken away by the opponent.
  • Robots are not allowed to bump into their opponents. Occasional, incidental contact will be overlooked, but contact resulting from aggressive play will result in the aggressive player losing the inning. If another player is damaged by the contact, the agressive play will lose the game.
