Downloading and Installing Printer Drivers

If you have any problems with installing or configuring printers, feel free to contact the ECEn SysOps for help.

This section explains how to download printer drivers that are not already on your computer or get updated versions of ones that you already have. Use these steps if you couldn't find the recommended print driver from the Printing FAQ or if the recommended drivers aren't working properly on your machine.

1	Go to the HP Drivers Web Page.

Select the option labeled "Download drivers and software". Type the model of the printer you need drivers for (look this up in the Printing FAQ) in the "for product:" box.

Hit Enter to continue.

3	Click the link corresponding to your operating system.

4	You will be given a big list of drivers. Search for one that says "Postscript Driver." (You do not need one that says "Postscript Driver Bundle").

5	Download the driver to your machine, saving it in an easy-to-find place (like your desktop).

Double-click on the file to open it. Type the following in for "Unzip to Folder:"

c:\printdriver

7	Click "unzip" to unzip the files, "OK" when that finishes, then "Close".

Follow the steps in the "Installing a Printer in Windows" tutorial until you get to the point of choosing a printer driver. Click the button labeled "Have Disk"

9	Browse to the c:\printdriver directory, and hit "Open".

You should now see the following:

Hit "OK".

12	You should now see a dialog with the printer model you are after. Make sure it is selected and click "OK".

13	Choose whether you want this printer as your default printer and click "Next".

14	Click finish. The printer should now be installed and ready to go!

15	You can safely delete the file you downloaded and the c:\printdriver directory. They are no longer needed.
