Using the Copy Machine as a Printer

The ECEn Dept. owns a Xerox WorkCentre Pro 65 PS copy machine that you may use as a printer.

The copy machine is located in 459 CB--the ECEn Dept. main office. You can print documents to the copy machine just as you would normally print to most other printers in the department. The copier is highly configurable. You can play with stapling, print ordering, layout, watermarks and the like once you have installed the copier as a printer on your machine. The copy machine is capable of all sorts of paper sizes and types, including transparencies. Ask the secretaries in 459 CB for more details on configuring the copier to meet your individual needs.

This tutorial covers the details of how to print to the copy machine from your computer running Windows XP.

3
After reviewing the license agreement, hit "Accept" to download the driver.
4
Choose "Save" or "Save to disk" and browse to an easy-to-remember location (the "My Documents" folder is a good choice).
5
It will make things easier if you change the file name to something shorter and easier to remember. For this tutorial, we'll call it "xerox.zip". Type "xerox.zip" into the box labeled "File name", then hit "Save" to download the file.

Once the download is complete, Unzip the file. To do this, right click it and select "Extract all...", then click "Next" a few times to get through the extraction process (all the defaults should be fine).

Unless you specified otherwise, a new, unzipped folder will appear in the same place as where you saved the print driver ZIP. It should be called xerox (or whatever you named the file you downloaded).
7
Open the Start menu and click on "Printers and Faxes". If you can't see it, open "Control Panel" and look for it there.
8
Click on "Add a printer" in the left sidebar.

Click "Browse..." and browse into the folder you unzipped earlier (probably named xerox). Inside the folder, you should see a file named XRW90PS.INF . Click "Open".

You should now see something like this:

18
Choose whether you want this to be your default printer and click "Next", then "Finish".
19
You can now clean up by deleting the print driver ZIP file (xerox.zip) and the unzipped folder (xerox). They are no longer necessary.
20
The last thing to do is to check the printer preferences. Open "Printers and Faxes", right click the printer, and choose "Printing Preferences..."
21
Look over the settings to make sure they seem right--if there are things you don't understand it's probably fine to leave them as they are.
