We get a lot of questions about what happens to the ECEn machines when the department is finished with them. Here are some frequently asked questions to give you an idea where the machines end up and how you might acquire one.

Where does the old ECEn equipment end up?
As a department we turn our old equipment back over to the University. Some of this equipment may be reused by others in the University or the Church, the rest of it is sold periodically to the public in various "surplus sales".

Who surpluses the equipment?
There are computer (and related equipment) surplus sales that take place periodically--note that these are University events, not Department ones. Since they are not organized by the department, the system administrators have little information regarding when the next one will be or what will be sold at the sale or auction.

Where can I find out more information about University surplus sales?
Additional information about purchasing surplus BYU equipment can be found at http://surplus.byu.edu.
