What's the difference between my ECEn account and my CAEDM account?
An ECEn account is a CAEDM account with additional priveleges specific to people in the ECEn classes or involved in ECEn teaching or research activities. Generally the username and password to access ECEn services are the same as the CAEDM pasword. If you're not sure whether the problem you're having is specific to the ECEn priveleges associated with your account or whether it's a more general CAEDM account problem, usually either the CAEDM Administrators or the ECEn SysOps can help you decide where to go for help.

Who gets an ECEn account?
Any student who is either a declared major in the college, taking a department class, or working for the department.

What if I am in another major taking classes in the ECEn Department?
If the class requires an account, you will be able to set up an account using the CAEDM Account Adder. If you added a class from the department after the first day of class, you may experience problems setting up your account. If you experience any difficulties, send an email to the CAEDM Sysops. Include your Route Y username, the name of the class you are currently taking, and a brief description of the problem (i.e. - "I added a class from the department late and am unable to create a CAEDM account.").

What if I am not registered for any classes at BYU, but am doing research for a professor?
The professor must inform the sysops that you require an ECEn account. After that, you will need to provide the ECEn SysOps with your Route Y username and BYU ID. The SysOps will then take care of creating an account for you.

When do accounts get disabled?
Accounts will be disabled if:
You have not changed your password within the last year. See the Password FAQ for more information.
You are over your disk space quota. Refer to the Disk Usage FAQ for information on how to check and how to reduce your disk usage.
You drop your ECEn classes or change your major.
Accounts are typically disabled the day before classes begin on any given semester or term, however, they may be disabled as early as the last day of finals of the previous semester or term. Please plan accordingly.

Does an ECEn account include personal web space?
CAEDM provides personal web space to each student with a CAEDM account. The ECEn Department does not offer personal web space to students over and above the CAEDM space. You can find more information about CAEDM's personal and group web space in the CAEDM User's Guide.

How do I access my CAEDM J:\ drive?
Usually, Windows machines are already set up so that you can access your CAEDM space through the J:\ drive. If not, do the following to manually map a network drive to your home space:
1
Open "My Computer". From the "Tools" menu, select "Map Network Drive...".
2
Under drive letter, choose the letter of the drive you want to map ("J", for example).
3
For the folder, enter the following:

\\fs-caedm.et.byu.edu\homes

If this doesn't work, your account may be disabled. Do not fret. It is probably due to the fact that you haven't changed your password in the last year. For what to do, see "How do I reenable my account?"

How do I enable my account?
Account enabling is a two step process. Validating and enabling.
1
To validate your account, you must be registered for classes or be officially accepted into an ECEn major. Additionally, a faculty member may have your account validated for research.
2
To enable your account, Change your CAEDM account password and your ECEn account will be created/enabled with the new password. Once the account has been updated, it may take up to seven minutes before you may log in.
If you do not have a CAEDM account, contact the CAEDM sysops. If you have changed your password in CAEDM and your account is not enabled, it is most likely because your account was not validated correctly (see above). If you continue to have difficulty, contact the ECEn SysOps.

How do I reenable my account?
Note: accounts are typically disabled the day before classes begin on any given semester or term, however, they may be disabled as early as the last day of finals of the previous semester or term. Please plan accordingly.
The following actions should reenable your account:
Change your password. See the Password FAQ for more information.
Make sure you are under your disk quota. Refer to the Disk Usage FAQ for information on how to check and how to reduce your disk usage.
If you still have problems, try logging into a CAEDM windows machine. Come visit or email the ECEn SysOps after you have tried this.
