Grading

Grades will be posted on Blackboard.

Midterm Exams: Two midterm exams will be given. One near the middle of the semster and one during finals week.

Homework: Homework typically uses up a significant amount of time and is a good indicator of the amount of effort being put into the class.
  1. Homework will be assigned on Thursdays and will be due the following Thursday.
  2. Homework will be turned in to the homework box
  3. Homework is due by 10pm on the due date
  4. No late homework will be accepted.

Projects: There will be a series of projects assigned. Most projects will be similar to extended homework assignments with more of an emphasis on numerical calculations. Most projects will require calculations using Matlab.
  1. The projects are required to be written up in a report style.
  2. You will be graded on both your results and your presentation clarity.
  3. The projects will typically be due two weeks after they are assigned.
  4. The projects need to be typed up and contain a short introduction and conclusion. They need to include graphs and equations along with descriptions of what was done and what the results were.

Final Project: You will need to complete a final proect. The final project will be slightly longer than a typical project. This project can be done with another partner from the class. There are a series of projects that you can choose from. Some projects are more like laboratory demonstration while other are more like background information studies. The final project need to be typed up.

Oral Report: You will also present the results of you final project as an oral report. The exact format of your oral report will depend on the type of project that you have.

Miscellaneous Information

Missed exams: Except in unusual circumstances, exams and due dates cannot be missed for credit unless prior arrangements have been made.

Attendance: Lecture hours are not mandatory. A passing grade might be attained by self study alone. A portion of the material may be presented in-class only, including motivation and demonstrations. All students are responsible to learn the material whether or not they attend the lectures.

Honor code: Adherence to the BYU honor code is expected. This includes appropriate dress in class, respectful treatment of others, and refraining from plagiarism, cheating, and any other type of academic dishonesty.
